Gentle Cat Ear Inspection Practice
Brief, low-pressure ear checks can help a cat accept examination, but cleaning or medication should follow veterinary direction.

Set up a safe practice space
Practice with clean hands when the cat is calm; do not insert swabs or other objects into the ear canal.
Put the equipment away when the cat is not participating, and choose a time without visitors or loud activity. Practice should feel predictable, never like a surprise procedure.
Build comfort in four small steps
Signs it's time to pause
Odor, discharge, head shaking or pain should be evaluated by a veterinarian, not managed with home experiments.
Record a comfortable choice
Note which item or touch was introduced, the distance, the duration and whether your cat remained relaxed. Return to the same easy starting point next time. If the cat was unsure, reduce the intensity and allow extra time.
Can I clean the ears while practicing?
Do not improvise cleaning. Ask your veterinarian whether it is needed and how to do it safely.
